I'm Ready For...

Basically, this is a complaint post. I'm feeling especially whiny and grumpy today (due to a cold, pregnancy, global warming, you name it) so I decided to make a list of things "I'm ready for" because you know, there's always something you feel you are waiting for, that if only it would happen it would make your life so much better. Alas, that's not usually the case, but here's my list anyways:
I'm Ready For...
1. Justin to start walking (hauling 23 pounds of toddler around while already hauling around extra pregnancy poundage is downright uncomfortable and soon to be undoable)
2. Evan to stop being scared of wind (Evan's new phobia in town means he will not go out if the slightest breeze is blowing and play. Case in point: yesterday--who has to drag their kid sobbing, kicking and screaming to the PARK!?)
3. My pregnant belly to be 7 months along. why you ask? because it looks that big to me and feels that big to me and makes me feel that tired...so why aren't I 7 months along then??
4. Evan to fall asleep by 8pm (I'm tired of the 7:30 to 10:30pm bedtime struggle at the end of the day. sigh.)
5. Steve to do all the housework and play with the kids nonstop while I lay around and read and drink smoothies.

Ok, that last one is truly wishful thinking, but it sure would be nice!!!

The Rest of the Story

Things have been a lot calmer for awhile now, so you think I'd be churning out the blogs by now! I guess I've just been more interested in reading other people's blogs than contributing to my own. Well, for history's sake, I'm going to start blogging again by finishing the story I started with my last post about going to the InstaCare with Justin. As many of you know, that visit was only the beginning! On Saturday Justin was feeling better but by Monday he was so incredibly miserable I decided to take him to the pediatrician's to make sure he wasn't getting sicker. The doctor said Justin was fine, he just wasn't dealing with his croup well. He assured me Justin would start perking up in another day or two. Meanwhile, Evan had continued to have his fever come and go but it wasn't until Tuesday that I realized we were on day 5 of the fever! Plus, Tuesday morning, his neck was suddenly bent at a weird angle. Worried, I got him into the pediatrician's that day where we found out Evan had strep. The doctor was concerned about his bent neck as well and told me to bring him back the next day if the antibiotics didn't make it better. Well, that night, Evan's neck got worse and he was acting crazy. We thought, there's either something seriously wrong with him or if not, we just want to know what's going on! So, we decided to take him to Primary Children's at like 10:30pm. They diagnosed him with tortocullis, a complication from strep. It's not dangerous, just not fun. They gave him a soft neck brace and a prescription for valium and sent us home at like 3am. Evan slowly got better and his neck went back to normal by the weekend (though I don't recommend giving valium to 4 year olds, it made Evan extremely irritable!!). After weathering a such a tough week (Steve had been sick too this whole time, he went to the Dr. to make sure it wasn't strep, and found out he had some kind of virus) we decided we desperately needed a night out. So we had dinner at Johnny Carinos. I got a steak with rosemary potatoes and green beans and also a side salad. The steak was too rare for my taste, so I ate like one bite before deciding to take it home to cook and eat later. So I pretty much ate green beans, potatoes and salad for dinner (with a italian cream soda of course!). Anyways, it totally didn't agree with me and by the middle of the night I thought I either had the stomach flu or food poisoning. So much for my plan to use the weekend to recover from my stressful week! hahaha! I was down and out too. Ugh.
However, this whole time, Evan had also been complaining about his foot hurting. I thought he had twisted it on a toy the day Justin got croup, but then it went from his foot, to his knee to finally, the kid just refused to walk period. So, by Wednesday of the following week I knew we needed to head back to the pediatrician's. The pediatrician said there was definitely something wrong with Evan's left hip and recommended we go to Primary Children's for further testing. He said he thought it could be one of three things, with the most likely one being a viral infection of the hip, which you couldn't do much about--just give him motrin and wait for it to go away. But, if it was any of the other things, if it wasn't treated right away, Evan could end up with a permanent limp! So I agreed to once more head up to the hospital, hoping, since we left at 4pm, we could avoid a middle of the night discharge. How wrong I was!! The ER was PACKED. We waited 3 hours to get into an examination room, then pretty much waited an hour and a half after that for anything we got done. Evan had bloodwork and x-rays done, and the doctor said he was pretty sure it looked like Evan had a viral infection. A long wait for good news, but we were glad to go back home even though it was like 2am again. At least Evan was extremely good and patient during this whole time, I was very grateful for that!
So, by the end of the 2nd week we all were finally doing better. Justin still has a cough which I'm pretty sure I'm just going to break down and get antibiotics for on Monday (it's been a month now). The doctor said if he kept getting coughs, we have to look into it being something chronic (he had a cough off and on from Nov. thru Jan. until some antibiotics got rid of it). But really, we are all doing so much better. It's such a relief!! And it only took me 3 trips to Primary Childrens to finally realize things are in the Lord's hands and we just need to go through some things sometimes. And that if we have faith and trust in Him, one way or another things will be alright (maybe not right away but eventually). I know that sounds all simplified, but believe me, it's true and I got to learn it the hard way! But thanks to everyone who took care of us, the meals were GREATLY appreciated as well as all of the prayers!I'll end this blog with some pics of some healthy boys. :)
